Poppethead Park is a fantastic location to hold special events like market days and festivals thanks to its spacious 31 acres and wildlife filled dam. There's good access for food trucks or vehicles with trailers, with power also available.
Just five kilometres south of Cessnock's main township, it's a very handy regional park.
The park is steeped in local history with the dam close by being a remnant of the local mining history which has been transformed into a home for a variety of wildlife. Watch the peaceful black swans, native wood ducks and red bills while you picnic, or learn more about the 'Poppethead' of the Aberdare Central Colliery at Kitchener, now onsite at Poppethead Park.
Cessnock City Council manages bookings for Poppethead Park and a link to hire the park is here https://www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/Council/Forms-and-documents/Forms/Use-of-Recreation-Facilities-Application
* A poppet-head was the frame at the top of an older style mineshaft which supported the pulleys for the hoisting ropes.
