Getting your cuisine needs right might seem daunting, but if you consider these points, you’ll find yourself on track to choosing the right type of catering for your event.
If your event is around a mealtime, guests may expect to be fed a more solid meal. If you don’t have the budget for a full meal service, or don’t want the event to go for long enough to make a meal worthwhile, consider planning your event time so that a morning tea, afternoon tea, or twilight canapes would be more acceptable.
This one is incredibly important. The average 5-year-old wouldn’t appreciate gourmet platters at their birthday party, so plan accordingly. If you want your event to look the part while still serving food that your guests will enjoy, presentation and styling can go a long way to making for a visually appealing event.
Are you looking for a sit-down meal, or something to get your guests mingling. Is there seating available? How many people will you be feeding? The practicalities can be very important. If you’re limited on space, it’s best to serve easy to eat food that won’t create a mess being eaten standing.
There are a lot of people with food intolerances, allergies and dietary requirements, so it’s important to have alternatives available at your event and clearly marked. Consider providing gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, and dairy free options. If you’re planning spicy cuisine such as Indian, Mexican or some Asian foods, ensure there are mild options available for those who don’t like chilli or hot curries.
Ensure you have water available for any event, but more so for ones being held outdoors, and those serving alcohol. Try and make sure the water stations are easy to access.
It’s important to know where you stand with RSA laws. Individual licenses can be granted to sell alcohol at one off special events. Find out more here
